Divided, Divided

Nothing exciting ever happens in the woods... until a mysterious blue light swallows a girl whole. After six years of searching in vain for the missing girl, Arisanna Lunagarde is back in the woods. This time, ropes of fog drag her to Alterria-a hidden town where nearly everyone has a magical gift. "Outsiders cannot survive in our world." As an Outsider, Ari shouldn't be able to survive more than a few hours, but the fact that Alterria has no effect on her draws too much suspicion. Ari discovers that her miraculous survival stems from connections she never knew existed, and as her own gift appears, those connections paint a target on her back. "I was supposed to keep you safe." Torren-Ari's first Alterrian friend, the boy who makes her heart race, and the only person who can help her get home-is imprisoned. Now alone, Ari must save Torren, and as her feelings for him grow, she soon discovers that going home will endanger everyone she loves, both inside and outside Alterria.
