A consultant based in New Jersey, Ott set out to produce a third edition of his 1988 Noise Reduction Techniques in Electronic Systems, a guide for practicing engineers involved in designing electronic equipment or systems and faced with compatibility and regulatory compliance problems. So much has changed, however, that he ended up completely rewriting most of what he had and adding nearly as much more. So he changed the title. He addresses practical aspects relating to both emission and immunity, and the concepts are applicable to both analog and digital circuits operating from below audio frequencies up into the gigahertz range. The core goal is to allow readers to design electronic equipment that is quiet and legal, but he also describes cost-effective designs and keeps the amount and complexity of the mathematics to a minimum.
